Bunyabagoose, is a publication that captures the story and reflections of Ned Monte. From growing up in the Australia’s depression through to his experiences of joining the Armed Forces and becoming a prisoner of war during World War II. The book shares accounts of the struggles and lifting moments of a time that is often forgotten. It allows us to glimpse into moments of the past, the treatment and experience of working on the infamous Thai-Burma ‘death’ railway and the courage of people surrounding him.

The project to re-design the publication was approached with utmost respect and care, we decided to propose creating a publication that reflected more of a personal journal, diary aesthetic. We adjusted the size, with similar measurements of a hand journal or diary and applied a traditional style with classical fonts, linen finishing and black and white photography placed throughout. The layout remains simple and clean allowing readers to easily focus and follow his fascinating story.
